Frequently Asked Questions

What books do you buy and sell?

Literature, mainly 19th and early 20th Century, in first or early decorative editions, general antiquarian non-fiction and sets in original leather bindings. Condition is important, particularly for leather bound books, although I'm happy to restore or rebind earlier rarer items.

My speciality is occult and esoteric material, particularly the 19th Century Occult Revival and authors connected with the Golden Dawn and descendant orders. I'm always interested in first editions (not reprints or reissues), manuscripts, signed or inscribed items and letters of:

H. P. Blavatsky

Andrew Chumbley

Aleister Crowley

Dion Fortune

Gerald Gardner

Kenneth Grant

S. L. Macgregor Mathers

Israel Regardie

Austin Osman Spare

Montague Summers

A. E. Waite

W. Wynn Westcott

Earlier works (at least before 1900; preferably 18th Century and earlier) on alchemy, kabbalah, magic, rosicrucianism and witchcraft are also sought.

What shipping methods do you use?

For items bought directly through the website shopping cart, shipping is free. For UK shipping I use Royal Mail Recorded (or next day Special Delivery for higher value items) for smaller packages or Parcelforce for larger packages. For international shipping, I use Royal Mail International Signed For (and tracked when countries provide that service). All services will require a signature on delivery.

A faster courier service can be arranged; please email for a quote.

What if I want to return an item?

All items can be returned for a refund (shipping to be paid by the customer), for whatever reason, up to 30 days after receipt. If the item is found to be not as described, I will also refund the return shipping. Please send me an email before returning anything.

Can I view your books in person?

I work from private premises (my home), but visitors are welcome by appointment. My business hours are Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm. I often exhibit at the monthly Bloomsbury Book Fair in London, so items can be seen there with prior arrangement. I am always happy to provide further pictures and details of any item by email.

Do you have a mailing list and do you issue catalogues?

Many of my most interesting occult and esoteric items are sold directly to my mailing list, before they reach general sale. If you would like to subscribe, please send me an email. I also often upload new acquisitions, before I have even catalogued them, on Twitter and Facebook, so you can also follow me on those sites. I have not issued any printed catalogues as yet.

Do you sell items on consignment?

I take suitable books on consignment; these have been occult items in the past, but could be highlights in other subjects too. I have developed a large customer base for occult and esoteric material, so have some confidence I could sell your item promptly and for a sensible price. If you have anything you would like to consign, please send me an email and I'll happily discuss it with you.

Can I pay in installments?

For higher value items it is sometimes possible to pay in two or three monthly insallments. Please email me for details.

Can you arrange repairs, restoration or rebinding of books?

I can advise on the restoration and rebinding of your books and arrange for the work to be undertaken by skilled binders on your behalf. Prices vary; please email me for details.

Can you appraise my book or give valuations?

I can offer an informal indication of market value and rarity for free, but for a more formal valuation, for insurance or probate for example, a fee will apply. Please email for details.

Can you search for a book?

Although I don't actively search for titles, you are welcome to leave a 'want' with me via email and I will contact you if I find anything suitable. This works particularly well for occult items, as I focus a lot of my time on these, but I also frequently visit book shops, book fairs and search online so other subjects can also be found.
